LEGO Duplo Read! Build! Play! Program

We LOVE LEGO in our household!! We recently got the amazing experience of visiting LEGO Kids fest in Milwaukee and I was thrilled to hear about all of the amazing work that they have been doing to help support Children’s Literacy with their Read!Build!Play! Program!!

The program kicked off last week in LA and will be making stops at libraries across the country over the next 3 months, with the next stop in Dallas on July 19th.  At these free events, families can join LEGO DUPLO play leaders for creative building fun with guided activities, inspirational songs and time for free build. Tailored for children under five, the experience demonstrates how reading coupled with construction play can engage, excite and encourage early literacy development. When we were at LEGO Kids Fest the McKenna never wanted to leave the DUPLO area.

For this summer program, LEGO DUPLO has partnered with the ALSC (Associated for Library Service to Children) in an effort to focus on bringing more play time to story time to promote early literacy. The tour kicked off in LA June 26th, continues next week in Dallas on July 19th, and will be making stops across the country at libraries, and other educational venues like aquariums, museums and zoos, until it ends up in Enfield, CT in October.   At these free events, families can join LEGO DUPLO play leaders for creative building fun with guided activities, inspirational songs and time for free build. Tailored for children under five, the experience demonstrates how reading coupled with construction play can engage, excite and encourage early literacy development.

For those who can’t attend the library stops, they can visit www.readbuildplay.com to download a program activity guide that offers families tips, suggestions and ideas on how to keep playtime fresh, energetic, educational, and Fun!! Visitors are also encouraged to vote for their local public library branch on the website today-October 1st to support children’s programs ( I just did) . The top three nominated libraries will receive monetary donations from LEGO DUPLO ($2,500, $3,500, $5,000) and the top 200 will receive physical toolkits (including bricks, books and activity guides) to implement play time into their programming. What a fantastic way to give back!! Make sure you take a minute and check it out.. also vote for your local library!!!
