Shortly before we walked the White Carpet for Frankenweenie’s premiere, we had the honor of sitting with a few of the young men who helped give the characters vibrant life in a black and white world. When the actors arrived they seem much more calm and cool then you would think these kids would be, given their age etc.. But what we found out during this interview was how down to earth and wise beyond their years these young men really are.
We sat down with Robert Capron (Bob), Atticus Shaffer (Edgar “E” Gore), and Charlie Tahan ( Victor Frankenstein) for a small chat on what went in to making these characters seem so realistic and what it was like to work on a first of its kind film like this.
I was amazed at the process these boys went through just auditioning for this film as many said it had been the longest audition they had ever attended lasting close to a year. All of the boys beamed with excitement talking about their characters and the passion that they all felt Tim Burton had while making this film. They spoke of their experiences with doing voice over work vs the normal acting that they are so used to saying that it was much easier with voice overs as you could put all of your energy into your voice. I was surprised to hear that most of the films voice overs were finished before the animation process had even began. But it all makes sense when you watch the film and see the similarities that the characters have to their counterparts and that it was a necessary part in making the characters come to life. The young men were filmed while doing their voice work to help the animators in capturing the movements and features that they would have.
They all agreed that they were surprised at how normal Tim Burton ( being a film genius of course) is and had no issues telling us what a joy it was working with him. They also stated that you could feel the love that Tim Burton had for making this movie and that this project was very close to his heart as some of Frankenweenie reminded Mr. Burton of his own childhood. I can tell you that just by sitting down with these talented actors that they are wise beyond their years and we will be hearing about their many talents for years to come.
When we were finished these talented young men had no problem snapping a few pictures with the old folks who came to talk with them.
A special thanks to Robert Capron, Atticus Shaffer, and Charlie Tahan for sitting down and chatting with us!! They are talented actors and have a bright future in front of them.
Make sure you check out their stellar performances in Disney’s Frankenweenie when it hits theaters on October 5th!!!
**Disney provided me with airfare, lodging, and accommodations for this event, regardless all opinions are 100% my own and Frankenweenie should be on your must see list of movies!!***
